An eventful weekend part 2

Now, for the second part of my weekend journey. We left for Franskraal at 19:00, but due to unfortunate events we only arrived there at exactly 24:00. Wondering why a maximum two and a half hour trip took us five hours? Firstly, the battery of the car I was driving in died due to the radio and inside light being on while we waited for the rest of the bunch to arrive. It wasn’t serious though and just needed a little push to start. Secondly, one of my friends had to be picked up in Stellenbosch and in the dark the driver (and person giving directions) got a bit confused. Thirdly, on our way there the one car got a flat tyre. The friend who’s car it is did not have a jack (ladies, please put the following in your car for emergencies: a jack, a spare tyre, a flashlight, a spanner, a cloth), but luckily the other car did. Unfortunately, the jack did not lift the car high enough for the tyre to be able to be put on the disc, so someone had to literally LIFT the car. Thankfully, we had a very strong male to help us (just a little bit earlier he had still joked and showed us he could lift the car up a little, then he actually had to lift it really high). Oh before I forget, some strong girls helped with the lifting too.

Yes, this was not our night. But it gets worse! When we arrived we opened the windows for fresh air to come in, we packed everything out, we switched on the lights, everyone got a tour and then we ate and started playing Pig-Out. This is a drinking game. And so we started the celebrations of two close friends’ birthdays! I am not going to go into the details as I don’t want to embarrass anyone on the internet. Bed time was at about 5:00.

At 7:00, we were awoken by a male voice asking who would like to go and watch the rugby. There were no volunteers. I think everyone got up at about 9:00 and then one friend realized that his wallet and phone was missing. This was worrying as it was in the house the whole time right next his massive camera bag, about 4 handbags, another camera and a whole bunch of other stuff standing in the living room. So, he tracked it on the computer and we went on a treasure-hunt looking for the goods in a “scary” part of Gansbaai (it’s an informal settlement in Gansbaai, how scary can it be? The worst thing that ever happens there is abalone poaching) and decided to call the cops. Two friends and I decided to stay in the car, but the others went on a hunt in a field where they cornered some guys that apparently were only smoking dope. We suspect that when they saw the cops and started running the phone was hidden somewhere in that field, but not somewhere to be located quickly. Maybe it was underneath something or buried? It was all very exciting to listen to as they had to chase them and corner them while one of my friends was wearing flip-flops and the other stokies slippers (he was also carrying the laptop). Can you imagine what a funny picture that would make?

The rest of the weekend went smoothly though with lots of delicious food, a walk on the beach, nice weather on Saturday, some more Pig-Out, hilarious conversations, some guys having to wear make-up due to a dare and a coin flip, fake tattoos being given to everyone and some much-needed sleeping-in for me on Sunday. All-in-all it was a great weekend-away with a bunch of special friends!

I just need to add that I love my friends and I value them a lot. I can come across as being a bit cold at times and a bit emotionless, so I am stating it on the internet for everyone to see 🙂 without them there are lots of special memories that would not exist today.

And to end… in my pants! 😉 you had to be there to appreciate it.

P.s. I will put the pics up soon…

Enjoy the scenery

I think I am a hard worker who deserves to have some time off when the occasion presents itself. And it presented itself last weekend. I took Monday off and turned it into a long weekend (with Tuesday being a public holiday) and it was absolutely worth it 🙂

Friday started with some delicious sushi and a few fun games of foosball with five of my close friends.

On Saturday, my love and I took the road to Ceres to visit his sister and her husband and their cute little girl on the farm. We had a good drive there with snow decorating the mountain tops and baboons sitting along the road. When we arrived there we were first greeted by their two dogs, Jesse the cocker spaniel and Boo a.k.a. Kahlua who is a pure mix breed (see their pics below), and then the family.

We had a great time there, with my love’s sister making yummy food every day. Our hosts spoiled us rotten and they are easy to talk to. For someone like me who has serious communication issues that is a major PLUS.

On Sunday we went for a walk in the veld and a drive on the bakkie. I felt like such a plaasmeisie with my hair blowing in the wind while standing on the back of the bakkie. Here are some photos of the picturesque scenery.

As you can see, it is beautiful. Sadly, our trip had to end and we took the drive home. But Monday was another big day, because I got to see The Used live! And to my surprise, also P.H.Fat, Lark and Fokofpolisiekar. Man, I was so happy 🙂 Lark was amazing! Inge Beckmann’s voice is so strong and full of life. Plus she wore this black cape thing that looked really cool! If I had to wear it people might mistake me for an extreme weirdo, but it suited her style and way of being.

As usual Fokofpolisiekar got the crowd going, they just know how to amp people up for a show. The show ended with The Used who blew my mind. It was amazing hearing those songs that I have listened to since high school being played live. Songs that I related to when I was younger that are filled with so many memories. Now I have made new memories with those same songs.

Thanks to everyone who made my long weekend super special 🙂
